HEALTH OF THE IRISH WATER SPANIEL

As a rare breed, the Irish Water Spaniel has its share of inheritable diseases.  If you are looking for a puppy, make sure the parents have been tested for hips and elbows and had their eyes tested before going home. Many breeders also conduct DNA tests for diseaeses with genetic markers, and the IWSCA recommends a cardiac test.
